The major averages (M criteria) are in a confirmed uptrend and there remains a healthy level of market leadership (a large number of high-ranked stocks hitting new highs). New buying efforts should only be made in stocks meeting all fundamental and technical criteria of the fact-based investment system. ThFeatured Stocks Page lists noteworthy high-ranked leaders.

The major averages advanced on the session Tuesday as the Federal Reserve began its two-day June policy meeting. Investors will key in on remarks at the meeting’s conclusion Wednesday regarding an update on economic outlook and possible future tightening. On the data front, wholesale prices were unchanged in May, in-line with expectations.

Ten of 11 sectors in the S&P 500 ended in positive territory. Technology stocks rebounded from their two-day slide with Visa (V +1.69%) rising. Apple (AAPL +0.80%) edged higher, paring its 6% decline experienced in the previous two sessions. In the consumer space, Hertz (HTZ +7.98%) rose amid reports the National Automobile Dealers Association announced upward revisions to May’s used vehicle index. Telsa (TSLA +4.72%) rose after being the subject of positive analyst commentary. In earnings, Science Applications International (SAIC -8.50%) fell as the IT consulting firm reported lower-than-expected quarterly revenue. Verizon (VZ -1.55%) fell after completing its $4.48 billion acquisition of Yahoo’s (YHOO -2.11%) core internet business.

Treasuries finished mixed with the benchmark 10-year note up 2/32 to yield 2.21%. In commodities, NYMEX WTI crude added 0.8% to $46.45/barrel. In FOREX, the Dollar Index fell 0.1%.
