PICTURED: The S&P 500 Index finished Tuesday's session -5.4% off its record high hit on January 26th. It has been sputtering after meeting resistance near its 50-day moving average (DMA) line (25,300).

The major indices (M criteria) have seen the latest uptrend come under pressureNew buying efforts are justified when all key criteria of the fact-based investment system are satisfied. ThFeatured Stocks Page provides the most timely analysis on high-ranked leaders that are noteworthy and action worthy.

The major averages advanced as three-week high oil prices fueled the energy sector rally. Meanwhile, focus remains on the Federal Reserve, who will conclude its two-day meeting tomorrow. The FOMC is widely expected to increase its benchmark interest rate for the first time this year. Markets will also be looking for any indication of additional rate hikes beyond the three expected in 2018. Jerome Powell’s first post-FOMC press conference as head of the U.S. Fed will also garner attention Wednesday. On the data front, there were no economic releases of note today.

Six of 11 sectors in the S&P 500 finished higher. Energy shares outperformed with Marathon Petroleum (MPC -3.25%). In Tech, Facebook (FB -2.58%) fell, extending its decline from the previous session, amid reports of a probe by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission surrounding mishandled user data. In earnings, Oracle (ORCL -9.43%) as revenue from its cloud business missed Wall Street estimates.

Treasuries were weaker as the yield on the benchmark 10-year note rose four basis points to 2.89%. In commodities, NYMEX WTI crude climbed 2.2% to $63.40/barrel. COMEX Gold lost 0.6% to $1310.10/ounce amid a stronger dollar.

G - Priced a new Public Offering and gapped down on 3/12/18 for a volume-driven loss undercutting its 50 DMA line ($47.76) and raising concerns. The recent low ($43.73 on 2/06/18) defines near term support where a violation would raise greater concerns. Earnings +21% for the Dec '17 quarter were below the +25% minimum earnings guideline (C criteria).
