Major Indices Rallied Further With Continued Healthy Leadership
Kenneth J. Gruneisen - Passed the CAN SLIM® Master's Exam
The S&P 500 (+1.0%) and Nasdaq Composite (+1.5%) were pushed to all-time highs in a broad advance. Volume reported was lighter than the prior session total on the NYSE and on the Nasdaq exchange. Advancers led decliners by a 5-2 margin on the NYSE and by a 3-2 margin on the Nasdaq exchange. There were 111 high-ranked companies from the Leaders List that hit new 52-week highs and were listed on the BreakOuts Page, versus the total of 82 on the prior session. New 52-week highs totals expanded and outnumbered shrinking new 52-week lows totals on the NYSE and on the Nasdaq exchange. The major indices are in a confirmed uptrend (M criteria). New buying efforts should be only made in stocks fitting all key criteria of the fact-based investment system.
PICTURED: The S&P 500 Index is posted a sold gain and is perched at a new all-time high.
NVIDIA (NVDA +4.47%) reached a new all-time high. Meta Platforms (META +3.25%) and Alphabet (GOOG +2.02%) also were among the influential winners in the market. Strength in the mega cap and semiconductor spaces drove the outperformance of the S&P 500 information technology sector (+1.9%) and the communication services sector (+1.8%). Nine of the 11 sectors registered gains. The financials (-0.2%) and real estate (-0.1%) sectors saw slim declines.
Fed Chair Powell's remarks before the Senate Banking Committee did not produce any surprise headlines. The 10-yr note yield hit 4.06% after the release of the weekly initial jobless claims, Q4 Productivity, and January Trade Balance Report, but it settled at 4.09%.

Y - Posted a solid gain today with below-average volume for a best-ever close near its all-time high. Subsequent gains and a close above the pivot point backed by at least +40% above average volume may trigger a conviciing new technical buy signal. Through Dec '23 its quarterly and annual earnings (C and A criteria) history has been strong, a good match with the fact-based investment system's guidelines. Thinly traded firm has only 5.7 million shares outstanding (S criteria), which can contribute to greater price volatility in the event of institutional buying or selling.
