Stocks Slumbered on Short Post-Thanksgiving Session
Kenneth J. Gruneisen - Passed the CAN SLIM® Master's Exam
The major indicesd were little changed on Friday's shortened session. Volume was lighter than the prior session on the NYSE and on the Nasdaq exchange. Breadth was positive as advancers led decliners by about a 5-2 margin on the NYSE and more than 2-1 on the Nasdaq exchange. There were 75 high-ranked companies from the Leaders List that hit new 52-week highs and were listed on the BreakOuts Page, versus the total of 82 on the prior session. New 52-week highs outnumbered new 52-week lows on the NYSE and on the Nasdaq exchange. The major indices are in a confirmed uptrend (M criteria). New buying efforts should be only made in stocks fitting all key criteria of the fact-based investment system.
PICTURED: The Nasdaq Composite Index is perched -1.4% off its 52-week high after rebounding from support at its 200-day moving avergae (DMA) line. S&P 500 sector performance was mostly positive. Nine sectors closed with gains ranging from 0.1% to 0.5%. The two losing sectors were communication services (-0.7%) and information technology (-0.3%). The market-cap weighted S&P 500 traded effectively in a seven-point range during Friday's uneventful session.
NVIDIA (NVDA -2.00%) encountered some pressure after Reuters reported the company is delaying its China AI chip. Apple (AAPL -0.71%) also fell after a year-over-year decline in smartphone sales during China's Singles Day while competitors Huawei and Xiaomi enjoyed strong, double-digit growth. Alphabet (GOOG -1.43%) and Meta Platforms (META -1.19%).edged lower.
