G - Gapped up today and hit a new all-time high with another gain backed by above average volume. Gains from its previously identified base were not substantial enough for its 3 very tight weekly closes to be considered an advanced "3-weeks tight" type pattern being cleared now, yet it may go on to produce more climactic gains. The nearest support is prior highs and its 50 DMA line in the $88-90 area.

Earnings were up +13% on +39% sales revenues in the latest quarter ended September 30, 2010, which is a new flaw with respect to the C criteria. Technically there is no resistance remaining due to overhead supply. Based on weak action it was dropped from the Featured Stocks list on 5/06/10, and after a subsequent trip below its 200 DMA line it recently rallied to new all-time highs. AMZN was featured in the 4/23/10 mid-day report (read here) while it was encountering distributional pressure following strong results for the March 31, 2010 quarter."

Recent mid-day reports noted - "It found support near its 200 DMA line since it was last noted in the 4/30/10 mid-day report. Once again, no overhead supply remains to act as resistance, but the $22 area acted as a resistance level in the past. This Singapore-based maker of diesel engines for trucks and busses in China also went through a deep correction since noted in the mid-day report on 1/12/10. - 'Up and down annual earnings (A criteria) leaves fundamental concerns.'"

It rallied from an inverse-head-and-shoulders type pattern since finding support at its 200 DMA following the previously noted 'breakaway gap' on 4/27/10. Leadership in the Auto/Truck - Replacement Parts group (L criteria) is a reassuring sign. The C criteria is satisfied as recent quarterly comparisons show earnings increases above the +25% guideline on +15%-20% better sales versus the year ago period. Its up and down annual earnings history (A criteria) is a concern."

This Redwood City, CA-based Computer Software - Database firm gapped up on 7/23/10 and was noted in prior mid-day reports - "Technically its considerable gain is a 'breakaway gap' following a choppy 4-month basing period. Fundamentally, it showed more impressive acceleration in its sales revenues and earnings increases for the quarter ended June 30, 2010. Prior quarterly earnings and sales increases have been borderline and below the minimum guidelines leaving fundamental concerns, yet it has maintained a steady annual earnings (A criteria) history."

Gain today for a new 52-week high while on track for a 10th consecutive weekly gain. Its annual earnings results showed a small downturn in '07, which is a minor flaw concerning the A criteria which calls for 3-5 years of steady earnings growth. Quarterly sales and earnings increases are not solidly meeting the guidelines with respect to the C criteria, while certainly "above average" as its 93 Earnings Per Share (EPS) rank currently suggests. Top-rated funds owning an interest decreased from 200 in Mar '09 to 155 in Sep '10, which is not good news concerning the I criteria. The stock is somewhat heavily owned (percentage-wise) by funds relative to its management's small 6% reported ownership.
