Y - Holding its ground today following a gap up on the prior session for a new 52-week high, rising from a 14-week cup shaped base without a handle. No resistance remains due to overhead supply after its small "breakaway gap" triggered a technical buy signal. Color code was changed to yellow when featured in the 7/26/11 mid-day report (read here) with pivot point cited based on its 4/28/11 high plus 10 cents. After this high-ranked Internet - Content firm was dropped from the Featured Stocks list on 5/13/11 it subsequently fell from $131 to $114 and tested support at its long-term 200 DMA line before rebounding impressively. It has maintained a track record of strong quarterly sales revenues and earnings increases.

Hovering at its all-time high today, extended from any sound base. Steadily rallying after reporting very strong earnings +122% on +82% sales revenues for the quarter ended June 30, 2011 versus the year ago period. With the second largest market cap of all publicly traded firms, AAPL does not fit the mold of a small growth firm unknown by the institutional crowd. It has a stellar earnings track record that solidly satisfies the C and A criteria. After its last appearance on 8/09/10 in the Featured Stock Update section (with detailed notes and an annotated graph) it was noted in multiple mid-day reports through 2010 as it rallied to new all-time highs, and it was also noted a handful of times earlier this year.

It faces no resistance due to overhead supply and it has just been inching to new 52-week and all-time highs with a recent spurt of volume-driven gains. Prior mid-day reports repeatedly noted - "It has a good annual earnings (A criteria) history. Only one of its past 3 quarterly comparisons through Mar '11 showed an earnings per share increase greater than the +25% minimum increase expected under the investment system's guidelines."

Reported earnings +38% on +25% sales revenues for the quarter ended June 30, 2011 versus the year ago period. Perched near its all-time today high building an orderly base well above an earlier base. Held its ground since last noted in the mid-day report when gapping up on 4/25/11 following a considerable 4/20/11 breakaway gap. Quarterly results showed stronger sales and earnings increases after a downward turn and negative comparisons in FY '08 and FY '09 (bad A criteria).

Hovering near its 52-week high with no resistance remaining due to overhead supply. Quarterly sales revenues and earnings increases in the 3 latest comparisons through March 31, 2011 were above the +25% guideline satisfying the C criteria. The downturn in FY '09 earnings is a flaw concerning the A criteria. With respect to the I criteria, the number of top rated funds owning its shares fell from 902 in Mar '11 to 853 in Jun '11. It survived but failed to impress since 4/23/2008 when it was dropped from the Featured Stocks list and subsequently fell from $13 to $3 over the next 6 months. First it had traded up as much as +25.4% after it was first featured at $15.89 in the February 2008 CANSLIM.net News (read here).

Churning heavy volume while consolidating above prior highs and its 50 DMA line defining support in the $64 area. Reported earnings +16% on +26% sales revenues for the quarter ended June 30, 2011 versus the year ago period. Perched near its all-time high after a recent streak of volume-driven gains helped it rise from a base-on-base type pattern. Prior mid-day reports noted - "Technically broke out on 4/14/11 from a base-on-base pattern. No overhead supply exists to act as resistance. The company has a strong annual earnings history (A criteria). The C criteria has not been well satisfied by +25% earnings increases in quarterly comparisons. Blue triangles beside the quarterly earnings figure in at least the past 8 comparisons indicate pre-tax, non-recurring items were included (where possible, such items are normally removed to provide data better suited for comparison). The restaurant operator survived but failed to impress as it went through several long and very deep corrections since it was dropped from the CANSLIM.net Featured Stocks List on 8/15/2007."

Hovering near its 52-week high today, extended from prior highs in the $19 area and far from any sound base pattern. Several apparel-related stocks have shown recent leadership (L criteria). Overhead supply has been no factor in hindering its progress since the 6/21/11 mid-day report noted - "It has returned to profitability in recent quarters and is an interesting turn around story, however its sales and earnings history fall below the fact-based system's guidelines after losses in FY '08 and '09. Based on technical deterioration it was dropped from the Featured Stocks list on 11/7/07 when still above $40. It has rebounded significantly from ultimate lows below $1.00 which it hit shortly after it was last reviewed in the FSU section of the After Market Update under the headline 'Gaps Down With Heavy Volume Are A Classic Sign of Institutional Selling'. A review of the old analysis is recommended."

It rebounded from a slump below its 50 DMA line during its 10-week cup shaped base. Touched a new all-time high today, rising from a saucer-with-high-handle type base pattern. It went through a deep consolidation after dropped from the Featured Stocks list on 9/05/08. It has rebounded impressively, especially since its Nov '10 breakout, and it may be an interesting turnaround story now, however the downturn in FY '09 and FY '10 earnings is a flaw with respect to the A criteria of the fact-based investment system. Its small supply of shares outstanding (the S criteria) can contribute to greater volatility, especially if institutional investors rush in or out.

Perched at its 52-week high today after a recent spurt of volume-driven gains. Held its ground at its 50 DMA line after a bout of distributional pressure in June. Recent quarterly comparisons through Mar '11 showed impressive sales revenues acceleration and strong earnings increases versus the year-ago period, but its up and down annual earnings (questionable A) history remains a fundamental concern.
