Most Recent Note for ASPS - 6/21/2011 11:55:48 AM
Holding its ground after a recent rally to a new all-time high with considerable volume-driven gains. Disciplined investors may watch for secondary buy points or a sound new base to possibly be formed and noted. It built an orderly base-on-base type pattern and technically broke out with a considerable gain on 4/20/11. Subsequent volume driven gains helped its Relative Strength Rank improve, however it is extended from any sound base pattern now. This Luxembourg-based Financial Services firm's small supply (S criteria) of only 16.8 million shares in the public float can contribute to greater volatility in the event of institutional buying or selling. ASPS was dropped from the Featured Stocks list on 10/07/10 then violated its 200 DMA with a streak of volume-driven losses, and it subsequently rebounded back above its 200 DMA and 50 DMA lines.

Consolidating below its 50 DMA line with resistance up through $57 due to overhead supply. Quarterly earnings increases have been above the +25% guideline in the past 6 comparisons, however sales revenues increases have been in the 11-13% range over the past year. A downturn in FY '09 earnings is a flaw concerning the A criteria.

Small gap up gain today, rising above previously stubborn resistance in the mid-$19 area. Held its ground and built an orderly base following its considerable volume-driven gain on 3/02/11. Reported earnings +23% on +5% sales for the quarter ended March 31, 2011. Prior mid-day reports - "Reported earnings +100% on +5% sales revenues for the quarter ended December 31, 2010 versus the year ago period. Its earnings history has been strong, but the lack of sales revenues growth raises concerns that there is not great or growing demand for a new (N criteria) product or services."

Hit another new 52-week high today, getting more extended from prior highs in the $19 area after a series of higher highs and higher lows. Several apparel-related stocks have shown recent leadership (L criteria). Recent mid-day reports repeatedly noted - "It has returned to profitability in recent quarters and is an interesting turn around story, however its sales and earnings history fall below the fact-based system's guidelines after losses in FY '08 and '09. Based on technical deterioration it was dropped from the Featured Stocks list on 11/7/07 when still above $40. It has rebounded significantly from ultimate lows below $1.00 which it hit shortly after it was last reviewed in the FSU section of the After Market Update under the headline 'Gaps Down With Heavy Volume Are A Classic Sign of Institutional Selling'. A review of the old analysis is recommended."
