More details about this report...
At around
mid-way through each trading day we run
a screen against our database of
high-ranked stocks, searching for
possible buy candidates that are trading
at or near their 52-week high on above
average volume. The results of that
screen are split into the two sections
you see below. The first, titled
"TODAY's FEATURED STOCKS" shows stocks
that our experts have recently
identified as among the strongest candidates to
consider. Stocks highlighted in yellow
are the most timely and noteworthy, so
particular attention and prompt action
may be appropriate. The second section,
titled "TODAY's BREAKOUT SCREEN" shows
the remainder of stocks meeting today's
screen parameters. Our experts have
reviewed and included notes on these
stocks as well, but found that they may
not match up as favorably.

Y - Gapped up to a new 52-week high today, which could be considered a "breakaway gap" following 4-weeks of tight consolidation. It reported accelerating sales and earnings increases for the period ended Dec 31, 2009, making its turnaround story all the more impressive. The action exemplifies that stocks often have swift reactions to fundamental news, so investors can expect to encounter greater volume and volatility during earnings season. Its annual earnings history (the A criteria) has been very impressive. ISRG has rebounded impressively from its March low ($84.86) and is quickly approaching all-time high ($359 in 2007). Additional analysis will be provided in this evening's Featured Stock Update section. Notes outlined technical deterioration before and when it was dropped from the Featured Stocks list on 6/10/08. ISRG had traded up more than 13-fold after first featured in yellow in CANSLIM.net reports on August 18, 2004.

Stubbornly holding its ground at multi-year highs after a considerable gap up on 1/20/10 with very heavy volume. A large loss on 1/15/10 with heavy volume led to a test of support its 10-week average. Fundamentally, its recent quarters including the period ended Dec 31, 2009 showed accelerating sales revenues increases and much improved earnings. Its annual earnings (A criteria) have also grown impressively since its downturn in FY '07.

Most Recent Note for EW - 1/22/2010 1:14:34 PM
Recent quarters showed good earnings increases, and it has a slow but steady annual earnings history. Sales revenues increases have been below guidelines, or fundamentally sub par. With respect to the N criteria, explosive sales revenues increases would be a true indication of great or growing demand for any company's products. Nonetheless, it has steadily advanced to all-time highs without forming any recent base since its 9/25/09 breakaway gap, having then cleared a big base-on-base pattern.

Reversing back under recent chart highs today after a considerable gain on 1/21/10 with heavy volume following a quiet consolidation above its 50 DMA line. It has maintained a good annual earnings (A criteria) history. Quarterly sales and earnings results were much improved in the period ended Dec 31, 2009, but prior comparisons showed sales and earnings repeatedly below the guidelines of the investment system, leaving fundamental concerns.

Most Recent Note for SBUX - 1/22/2010 1:42:28 PM
Pulling back today after hitting a new 52-week high on the prior session. It has reversed back into its latest orderly base above its 50 DMA line, consolidating in a base-on-base type pattern. Sales revenues increased +4% in the quarter ended Dec 31, 2009 after revenue declines in each of the prior 4 quarterly comparisons. Earnings have been much improved in the 3 latest quarterly comparisons, however its up and down annual earnings (A criteria) history makes the Retail - Restaurants firm fall below the guidelines of the investment system.

It has steadily been advancing since breaking out in early-August 2009 and has wedged into new all-time high territory in recent weeks, rising clear of all resistance due to overhead supply. Its FY '10 earnings showed a downturn, a flaw with respect to the A criteria, while the 2 latest quarters ended June and Sept '09 showed sales and earnings increases below the minimum guidelines. Based on weak technical action TDG was dropped from the Featured Stocks list 1/17/08.

Steadily climbing to new 52-week highs in recent weeks, it has not built any orderly base. Good annual earnings (A criteria) history. Quarterly earnings increases have been mostly under the +25% guideline, but accelerating. Sales revenues increases in the +12-14% range are a sign of mediocre growth.
