Major Averages Rose With Better Volume Conviction
Kenneth J. Gruneisen - Passed the CAN SLIM® Master's Exam
Stocks were higher on Monday's session. The Dow rebounded from down as many as 116 points to finish up 118 at 17,880. The NASDAQ Composite climbed 30 points to close at 4,917. The volume totals were reported higher on the NYSE and on the Nasdaq exchange versus the prior session totals. Advancers led decliners by nearly a 3-1 margin on the NYSE, but advancers led by a narrower 4-3 margin on the Nasdaq exchange. There were 41 high-ranked companies from the CANSLIM.net Leaders List that made new 52-week highs and appeared on the CANSLIM.net BreakOuts Page, down from the prior session total of 51 stocks. New 52-week highs solidly outnumbered new 52-week lows on the NYSE and the Nasdaq exchange. There were gains for 7 of the 13 high-ranked companies currently on the Featured Stocks Page.
Concerning the M criteria, the major averages' endured recent distributional pressure which put the rally under pressure, however, their remains a healthy level of leadership (stocks hitting new 52-week highs). New buying efforts should only be made in stocks meeting all of the fundamental and technical guidelines the fact-based investment system.
PICTURED: The S&P 500 Index rebounded above its 50-day moving average (DMA) line as it gained 14 points to 2,080.
The major averages finished firmly in positive territory amid speculation the Fed may delay raising interest rates following a weaker-than-expected update on the labor market. On Friday, nonfarm payrolls rose 126,000 in March, below a projected 245,000 increase. On the Fed front, New York President William Dudley said in a speech today the pace of tightening will likely be "shallow". A release this morning revealed service sector activity slowed modestly last month.
All 10 sectors rose on the session led by a more than 2% advance in energy. Transocean (RIG +10.14% ) and Exxon (XOM +0.98%) were higher as oil rallied. Electric car maker Tesla (TSLA +6.34%) after reporting quarterly sales above estimates. Financials were the relative underperformer. Hudson City Bancorp (HCBK -6.86%) fell after M&T Bank (MTB -2.71%) announced a delay in their proposed merger.
Treasuries retreated ahead of this week's scheduled auctions of three-, 10- and 30-year securities totaling $58 billion. Benchmark 10-year notes fell 17/32 to yield 1.90%.
In commodities, NYMEX WTI crude surged +5.6% to $51.90/barrel after Saudi Arabia raised prices on shipments to Asia. COMEX gold rose 1.2% to $1215.60/ounce.

Holding Ground After Rally For New Highs
Kenneth J. Gruneisen - Passed the CAN SLIM® Master's Exam
Jones Lang Lasalle Inc (JLL -$0.99 or -0.58% to $169.95) is extended from its prior base. It found support near prior highs on the recent pullback. The 50-day moving average (DMA) line ($160.66) also defines an important support level to watch. Subsequent losses would raise concerns and trigger technical sell signals.
It was last shown in this FSU section on 3/17/15 with annotated graphs under the headline, "Found Support Near Prior Highs and 50-Day Moving Average Line". It was highlighted in yellow in the 2/03/15 mid-day report (read here) and noted - "Has the look of a valid Secondary Buy point up to +5% above prior highs."
JLL reported Dec '14 earnings +29% on +16% sales revenues, above the +25% minimum earnings guideline (C criteria) for the 3rd consecutive quarterly comparison versus the year ago periods. That helped provide a reassurance, fundamentally, and it appeared to form a base-on-base type pattern after a breakout in mid-December which came after noted with caution in the 12/02/14 mid-day report, "Patient investors may watch for a new base or secondary buy point to possibly develop and be noted in the weeks ahead."
The number of top-rated funds owning its shares rose from 513 in Mar '14 to 671 in Dec '14, which is a reassuring sign concerning the I criteria. Its small supply (S criteria) of only 43.9 million shares in the public float contribute to greater price volatility in the event of institutional buying or selling.
