S&P 500 Index Rebounded Above 50-Day Moving Average Line
Kenneth J. Gruneisen - Passed the CAN SLIM® Master's Exam
Stocks rebounded from three weeks of losses as all three major averages finished up +1.2% or more. The Dow advanced 228 points to 17,977. The NASDAQ rose 57 points to 4,929. The volume totals reported on the NYSE and on the Nasdaq exchange were lighter than the prior session totals, revealing a lack of serious institutional buying demand behind the gains. Breadth was positive as advancers led decliners by nearly 2-1 margin on the NYSE and by about 4-3 on the Nasdaq exchange. Leadership expanded as there were 93 high-ranked companies from the CANSLIM.net Leaders List that made new 52-week highs and appeared on the CANSLIM.net BreakOuts Page, up from the prior session total of 42 stocks. New 52-week highs outnumbered new 52-week lows on the NYSE and on the Nasdaq exchange. There were gains for 12 of the 13 high-ranked companies currently on the Featured Stocks Page.
Monday's expansion in leadership bodes well for the market outlook. Concerning the M criteria, the major averages' uptrend recently came under pressure, and members were reminded that any sustained rally for the major averages requires a healthy crop of stocks hitting new highs. New buying efforts should only be made in stocks meeting all of the fundamental and technical guidelines the fact-based investment system. Meanwhile, stand ready to take swift action if any stocks you own trigger any worrisome technical sell signals.
PICTURED: The S&P 500 rebounded above its 50-day moving average, improving its technical stance as it climbed 27 points to 2,081.
The major averages advanced amid speculation that the Fed may indicate rate hike delays after meeting on the 17th-18th. The latest economic data was light. Manufacturing in the New York area surprisingly slowed down in March and a gauge of industrial production increased less than projected for February.
At the close, nine of the 10 S&P 500 sectors were in positive territory. Health care was up the most amid M&A activity. Valeant (VRX +2.49%) after Salix Pharmaceuticals (SLXP +1.98%) accepted the company's increased bid. Industrials outperformed as Delta (DAL +1.45%) rose on the heels of lower oil prices. Duke Energy (DUK +1.47%) and other utilities advanced amid speculation that rate increases may be delayed. Material stocks were the lone group lower. Reports of currency headwinds sent DuPont (DD -4.26%) down.
Treasuries pushed higher on speculation of delayed interest rate increases. The 10-year note gained 11/32 to yield 2.08%.
Commodities were mixed. WTI crude fell -2.4% to $43.77/brl. and COMEX gold climbed +0.1% to $1,154.00/oz. In FOREX, the dollar lost -0.4% with the euro up +0.7% to $1.0567/EUR and the yen unchanged at ¥121.40/USD.

Tech, Financial, Retail, and Energy-Linked Groups Led Rally
Kenneth J. Gruneisen - Passed the CAN SLIM® Master's Exam
A solid gain from the Retail Index ($RLX +1.04%) and modest gains from financial shares underpinned the major averages' rally on Monday as the Bank Index ($BKX +0.65%) and the Broker/Dealer Index ($XBD +0.86%) both posted gains. The tech sector saw unanimous gains from the Networking Index ($NWX +1.36%), Semiconductor Index ($SOX +1.52%), and the Biotechnology Index ($BTK +2.38%). Energy-related shares had a positive bias as the Oil Services Index ($OSX +0.80%) and the Integrated Oil Index ($XOI +1.17%) both posted gains. Meanwhile the Gold & Silver Index ($XAU -0.12%) was a laggard as it edged lower.

Found Support at Long-Term Average and Fundamentals Are Good
Kenneth J. Gruneisen - Passed the CAN SLIM® Master's Exam
Reis Inc (REIS +$0.34 or +1.34% to $25.69) was highlighted in yellow with pivot point cited based on its 1/06/15 high plus 10 cents in the earlier mid-day (read here). Subsequent volume-driven gains above the pivot point are still needed to trigger a technical buy signal. It ended today's session with a volume-driven gain leaving it within striking distance of a best-ever close and near its 52-week high.
It found support at its 200-day moving average (DMA) line during its consolidation. It had earnings increases above the +25% minimum guideline (C criteria) and sales revenues improving in the Mar, Jun, Sep, and Dec '14 quarterly comparisons. Annual earnings (A criteria) history has been improving steadily since FY '10.
The high-ranked Real Estate Development/Operations firm has an Up/Down Volume Ratio of 1.3 which is an unbiased indication its shares have been under accumulation over the past 50 days. The number of top-rated funds owning its shares rose from 117 in Mar '14 to 149 in Dec '14, a reassuring sign concerning the I criteria.
