G - Gapped down today following a report of earnings +21% on +22% sales revenues for the quarter ended September 30, 2010 versus the year ago period. It remains near its 52-week high, in healthy shape technically, and may deserve the benefit of the doubt with a favorable backdrop from the M criteria currently favoring 3 out of 4 growth stocks. However, the weaker earnings increase (under the +25% guideline) raises concerns, fundamentally, with respect to the C criteria. Earlier notes acknowledged the downward turn in annual earnings (A criteria) in FY '08, another fundamental concern with respect to the fact-based investment system.

Up again today after considerable gains last week with heavy volume helped it hit new 52-week highs and clear stubborn resistance. Recent mid-day reports noted - "It found support near its 200 DMA line since it was last noted in the 4/30/10 mid-day report. Once again, no overhead supply remains to act as resistance, but the $22 area acted as a resistance level in the past. This Singapore-based maker of diesel engines for trucks and busses in China also went through a deep correction since noted in the mid-day report on 1/12/10. - 'Up and down annual earnings (A criteria) leaves fundamental concerns.'"

Hit another new 52-week high today. It steadily rose after recent mid-day reports noted - "Extended from prior chart highs in the $25-26 area. It rallied from an inverse-head-and-shoulders type pattern since finding support at its 200 DMA following the previously noted 'breakaway gap' on 4/27/10. Leadership in the Auto/Truck - Replacement Parts group (L criteria) is a reassuring sign. The C criteria is satisfied as recent quarterly comparisons show earnings increases above the +25% guideline on +15%-20% better sales versus the year ago period. Its up and down annual earnings history (A criteria) is a concern."

Hit a new 52-week high today after reporting earnings +81% on +14% sales revenues for the quarter ended September 30, 2010 versus the year ago period. The 10/21/10 mid-day report as it hit a new high noted - "With strength in the Transportation - Rail group a contributing factor. Its annual earnings history (A criteria) is marred by a terrible downturn in FY '09. The latest quarters for Mar and Jun '10 showed strong increases in sales and earnings after negative comparisons in the prior 5 quarters. "

Considerable gain today with heavy volume is technically a "breakaway gap" following a report of earnings +78% on +24% sales for the quarter ended September 30, 2010 versus the prior year. A downward turn in its FY '09 earnings is an obvious flaw with respect to the investment system's A criteria today. It is an interesting turn around story with a small supply of only 20.6 million shares (S criteria) outstanding. Longtime members may recall that SSYS was long ago (2003) featured in our monthly newsletter and special reports.

Holding its ground stubbornly since the 10/20/10 mid-day report noted - "Encountering mild distributional pressure, yet staying perched near its 52-week high. In the 9/27/10 mid-day report it was noted - 'Recently rallied from a near 6-month base. Sales revenues and earnings increases have been below guidelines in its quarterly comparisons while it has maintained a slow and steady annual earnings history.'"
