More details about this report...
At around
mid-way through each trading day we run
a screen against our database of
high-ranked stocks, searching for
possible buy candidates that are trading
at or near their 52-week high on above
average volume. The results of that
screen are split into the two sections
you see below. The first, titled
"TODAY's FEATURED STOCKS" shows stocks
that our experts have recently
identified as among the strongest candidates to
consider. Stocks highlighted in yellow
are the most timely and noteworthy, so
particular attention and prompt action
may be appropriate. The second section,
titled "TODAY's BREAKOUT SCREEN" shows
the remainder of stocks meeting today's
screen parameters. Our experts have
reviewed and included notes on these
stocks as well, but found that they may
not match up as favorably.

Y - Hit a new 52-week high with today's 6th consecutive gain after finding support near its 50 DMA line and prior chart highs during its 8-week consolidation. The 9/16/11 mid-day report (read here) included it highlighted in yellow with pivot point based on its 52-week high plus 10 cents. A gain with at least +40% above average volume while rising above its pivot point may trigger a technical buy signal. Recently rallied after reporting very strong earnings +122% on +82% sales revenues for the quarter ended June 30, 2011 versus the year ago period. Stellar earnings track record that solidly satisfies the C and A criteria. However, it is already heavily owned by the institutional crowd, and ownership by top-rated funds fell from 4,365 in Mar '11 to 4,347 in Jun '11.

G - Holding its ground today. Last week it reported earnings +53% on +32% sales revenues for the quarter ended July 31, 2011 versus the year ago period, and a considerable "breakaway gap" with heavy volume cleared its pivot point and triggered a technical buy signal. Color code is changed to green. Breakaway gaps are one exception where chasing a stock more than 5% above prior highs may be permitted, but risk increases when doing so that an ordinary pullback may prompt investors to sell per the system's selling rules.

Reported earnings +11% on +10% sales revenues for the quarter ended July 31, 2011 versus the year ago period. Since noted in the 6/24/11 mid-day report it surged to a new 52-week high in July, then slumped under its 200 DMA line during a deep consolidation, and it is now rebounding toward its high. Proposed yet another Secondary Offering on 5/31/11. During 2010 it completed a Public Offering and two Secondary Offerings. As noted in prior mid-day reports - "It has shown good sales revenues and earnings increases in recent quarters satisfying the C criteria. Its prior earnings history is below guidelines."

Most Recent Note for AZO - 9/19/2011 12:28:13 PM
Steadily rallying into new high territory and getting extended from any sound base since noted in the 8/22/11 mid-day report after recently testing support near its 200 DMA line - "Reported +28% earnings on +9% sales revenues for the quarter ended April 30, 2011. Its 4 latest quarterly comparisons (C criteria) showed earnings increases above the +25% minimum guideline while sales revenues increases were in the +1-13% range and gradually accelerating. It is heavily owned by mutual funds already, yet top-rated funds owning shares rose from 1,051 in Dec '10 to 1,118 in Jun '11, a somewhat reassuring sign concerning the I criteria. While consumers are fixing their old cars and holding off on new car purchases, AZO and similar players in the auto-repair arena have shown some leadership."

Due to fundamental concerns it was dropped from the Featured Stocks list on 8/02/11 and subsequently slumped near its 200 DMA line before rebounding. Today's 6th consecutive gain has it rallying within close striking distance of its all-time high. Reported earnings per share +12% on +22% sales revenues for the quarter ended June 30, 2011 versus the year ago period, marking its 2nd consecutive quarterly comparison with earnings below the +25% guideline.

Hitting a new 52-week high today with a 2nd consecutive gain backed by above average volume. It slumped -28% during its 10-week "V" shaped cup with no handle. Recent mid-day reports noted - "Gains last week helped it approach its 52-week high, but it has not formed a sound base pattern. Recent quarterly comparisons have shown strong sales revenues and earnings increases (good C criteria). Losses in FY '07 & '08 are a flaw concerning the investment system's A criteria, and consensus estimates calling for earnings -8% in FY '12 and -9% in FY '13 are additional cause for concern."

Its latest quarterly comparisons showed improving sales and earnings but its prior earnings history is below guidelines of the fact-based investment system. Based on weak technical action it was dropped from the Featured Stocks list 11/8/07 and subsequently fell from $136 to as low as $14.50 in March '09 before rebounding.
