More details about this report...
At around
mid-way through each trading day we run
a screen against our database of
high-ranked stocks, searching for
possible buy candidates that are trading
at or near their 52-week high on above
average volume. The results of that
screen are split into the two sections
you see below. The first, titled
"TODAY's FEATURED STOCKS" shows stocks
that our experts have recently
identified as among the strongest candidates to
consider. Stocks highlighted in yellow
are the most timely and noteworthy, so
particular attention and prompt action
may be appropriate. The second section,
titled "TODAY's BREAKOUT SCREEN" shows
the remainder of stocks meeting today's
screen parameters. Our experts have
reviewed and included notes on these
stocks as well, but found that they may
not match up as favorably.

Up from the session's early lows after gapping down below its 50 DMA line today following a negative reversal. Its choppy action in recent weeks is not a sound looking base pattern. Reported earnings +26% on +12% sales for the quarter ended July 31, 2011 versus the year ago period. In several June mid-day reports it was noted - "Good annual earnings history and quarterly earnings increases above the +25% meet the investment system's C and A guidelines, however sales revenues have shown just steady increases in the +12-14% range."

Making its 2nd consecutive mid-day report appearance, this UK-headquartered firm in the Mining - Gold/Silver/Gems group is on track for a 9th consecutive weekly gain, challenging its all-time high with no overhead supply remaining to act as resistance. Sales revenues and earnings increases in the Mar '11 and Jun '11 quarterly comparisons have been much greater than the +25% minimum guideline following sub par Dec '10 quarterly results. Up and down annual earnings (A criteria) history is also a concern.

Consolidating above its 50 DMA line, perched just -3.4% off its 52-week high hit on 7/22/11. 4 prior mid-day reports thus far in August noted - "The global burger giant's stock is viewed as a "safe haven" and longtime favorite for some institutional investors, however, with 1.04 billion shares outstanding it is unlikely to be a sprinter capable of many-fold price increases. Earnings increases in the quarterly comparisons have not met the +25% minimum guideline, and sales revenues increases have been sub par."

Making its 2nd consecutive mid-day report appearance. Reported earnings +14% on +4% sales revenues for the quarter ended June 30, 2011 versus the year ago period, not a good match, fundamentally, with the investment system's winning models. Found support at its 200 DMA line during its consolidation since noted in the 7/21/11 mid-day report. No resistance remains due to overhead supply. It and similar players in the auto-repair arena have shown recent strength while consumers are fixing their old cars and holding off on new car purchases. Its annual earnings (A criteria) growth rate has been good in recent years. But in 6 of its 8 most recent quarterly earnings comparisons there are blue triangles beside the earnings figure on the chart service used by our experts - which indicates pre-tax, non-recurring items were included (where possible, such items are normally removed to provide data better suited for comparison).

Hit a new 52-week high today, quietly inching higher this week with no resistance remaining due to overhead supply. Found support near its 200 DMA during its consolidation since noted in the 3/21/11 mid-day report - "Recent quarterly comparisons show sales revenues and earnings increases but its up and down annual earnings (A criteria) history leaves fundamental concerns."

Good annual earnings (A criteria) history, but its quarter ended May 31, 2011 was the first comparison in 6 quarters to finally show an earnings increase above the +25% guideline. Ownership by top-rated funds fell from 547 in Sep '10 to 515 in Jun '11.

Gapped down today violating its 50 DMA line following an impressive rebound. Abruptly violated its 50 and 200 DMA lines in recent weeks while encountering heavy distributional pressure. Last noted in the 6/23/11 mid-day report - "Sales revenues and earnings growth history does not meet the investment system's guidelines."

Hovering near its 52-week high today, holding its ground following a streak of volume-driven gains. Repeatedly noted as extended from any sound base pattern. Found support near its 50 DMA line and well above prior chart resistance on its recent pullback. Reported earnings +78% on +19% sales revenues for the quarter ended June 30, 2011 versus the year ago period and recent quarters were strong, but its up and down annual earnings (questionable A) history remains a fundamental concern. There is a small supply of only 4.26 million shares in its float, which can contribute to greater price volatility in the event of institutional buying or selling.

Gapped down today, pulling back below its 50 DMA line. The 8/17/11 mid-day report noted - "Rebounded back above its 50 and 200 DMA lines after enduring damaging distribution in early-August. Worrisome pattern of lower highs and lower lows in recent months remains a concern, technically. Fundamentally, its quarterly and annual earnings history has been below the investment system guidelines."
