Perched at its 52-week high, pulling back today after a streak of volume-driven gains last week helped it technically break out of a long flat base pattern. Recent quarterly comparisons showed strong earnings, however sub par sales revenues growth has been a concern while increases have been in the +7-11% range. Autozone Inc (AZO) and similar players (MNRO & ORLY) in the auto-repair arena have been noted in recent months while consumers have been fixing their old cars instead of buying new cars they cannot afford.

Still inching higher today for another new 52-week high. Volume-driven gains in the past 2 weeks helped it gradually rise from an orderly base pattern since the 5/05/11 mid-day report noted - "Group RS rating currently is D, not reassuring concerning the L criteria. Earnings increase of +46% for the Mar '11 quarter was the first comparison in more than 2 years with a better than +25% increase."

In recent months it built an orderly base-on-base type pattern and technically broke out with a considerable gain on 4/20/11. Subsequent volume driven gains helped its Relative Strength Rank improve while getting extended from prior highs. Disciplined investors may watch for secondary buy points or a sound new base to possibly be formed and noted. This Luxembourg-based Financial Services firm's small supply (S criteria) of only 16.8 million shares in the public float can contribute to greater volatility in the event of institutional buying or selling. After it was dropped from the Featured Stocks list on 10/07/10 it then violated its 200 DMA with a streak of volume-driven losses before rebounding back above its 200 DMA and 50 DMA lines.

Technically it broke out with volume-driven gains in recent weeks to new 52-week highs. Erratic earnings history makes it, fundamentally, below the investment system guidelines.

Today's 6th consecutive gain with above average volume has it challenging its 52-week high and no overhead supply remaining to act as resistance. Reported earnings +17% on +48% sales revenues for the quarter ended March 31, 2011 versus the year ago period, continuing a clear trend of sequential deceleration in its quarterly sales and earnings increases. Consensus estimates call for +14% earnings increase in FY '11.

Pulling back today, but extended from its recent base after spiking to new 52-week highs and multi-year highs (above its 2007 high) with volume-driven gains. Disciplined investors may watch for secondary buy points or a sound new base to develop and be noted in the weeks ahead if the broader market (M criteria) rally continues. Sales revenues and earnings increases (C criteria) have shown impressive acceleration in recent quarterly comparisons. Concern were previously noted because its annual earnings (A criteria) history was up and down, yet recent fundamental and technical action has been a better match for winning models of the fact-based investment system.
