Nasdaq Composite Index Led Other Major Indices

The S&P 500 closed little changed as the Nasdaq Composite settled +0.6% higher, The volume totals reported were mixed, lighter than the prior session total on the NYSE and higher on the Nasdaq exchange. Decliners led advancers by almost a 2-1 margin on the NYSE and by a much narrower margin on the Nasdaq exchange. There were 40 high-ranked companies from the Leaders List that hit new 52-week highs and were listed on the BreakOuts Page, versus the total of 33 on the prior session. New 52-week highs totals expanded and they outnumbered new 52-week lows on the NYSE and on the Nasdaq exchange. The major indices are in a confirmed uptrend (M criteria). Disciplined investors know that new buying efforts are only to be made in stocks meeting all key criteria of the fact-based investment system.
X PICTURED: The Nasdaq Composite Index posted a gain with lighter volume after pulling back from near its all-time high.
Treasury yields moved higher as the 10-yr yield settled three basis points higher at 4.23%. The 2-yr yield settled three basis points higher at 4.10%.
The communication services (+0.7%), information technology (+0.6%), and consumer discretionary (+0.5%) sectors were top gainers. The influential financial sector closed near the bottom of the lineup, -1.1% lower.

The Bank Index ($BKX -1.37%) lost ground while the Broker/Dealer Index ($XBD +0.05%) finished flat and the Retail Index ($RLX +0.21%) inched higher. The Semiconductor Index ($SOX +1.07%) led the tech sector with a solid gain while the Networking Index ($NWX +0.01%) was unchanged Biotech Index ($BTK -0.36%) edged lower. The Gold & Silver Index ($XAU -1.86%) lost ground. The Oil Services Index ($OSX +1.30%) posted a solid gain and the Integrated Oil Index ($XOI +0.20%) inched higher.
