Major Averages Finished Week With Solid Gains
Kenneth J. Gruneisen - Passed the CAN SLIM® Master's Exam
For the week, the Dow gained +1.4%, the S&P 500 rose +1.8% and the NASDAQ finished +3.3% higher. All three major averages notched gains on Friday. The volume totals were reported mixed, lower than the prior session on the NYSE and higher on the Nasdaq exchange versus the prior session totals. Advancers led decliners by a narrow margin on the NYSE, but decliners had a slight lead over advancers on the Nasdaq exchange. There were 50 high-ranked companies from the CANSLIM.net Leaders List that made new 52-week highs and appeared on the CANSLIM.net BreakOuts Page, down from the prior session total of 53 stocks. New 52-week highs easily outnumbered new 52-week lows on the NYSE and on the Nasdaq exchange. There were gains for 5 of the 14 high-ranked companies currently on the Featured Stocks Page.
Concerning the M criteria, the major averages have overcome recent distributional pressure and leadership (stocks hitting new 52-week highs) has remained healthy, helping the rally continue. New buying efforts should only be made in stocks meeting all of the fundamental and technical guidelines the fact-based investment system.
PICTURED: The S&P 500 Index advanced 4 points to 2,117, finishing at a new all-time high.
Stocks finished the week higher. The Dow climbed 21 points to 18,080. The NASDAQ gained 36 points to 5,092.
The major averages shrugged off mixed economic data as quarterly earnings were in focus. Durable goods orders in March unexpectedly jumped 4%, but capital goods orders surprisingly fell -0.5%.
At the close, four of the 10 S&P 500 sectors were higher. Consumer discretionary was up the most. Amazon.com (AMZN +14.13%) on positive quarterly results. In tech, Google (GOOGL +2.91%) and Microsoft (MSFT +10.45%) rallied on strong profit tallies. After agreeing to walk away from their corporate marriage, Time Warner (TWC +4.37%) and Comcast (CMCSA +0.69%) rose. Exxon Mobil (XOM -0.65%) edged lower as energy was down the most in sympathy with oil prices. .
Treasuries pushed higher. The benchmark 10-year note climbed 14/32 to yield 1.91%. The 30-year bond advanced 28/32 to yield 2.61%.

Retail Index Rallied While Most Groups Pulled Back
Kenneth J. Gruneisen - Passed the CAN SLIM® Master's Exam
The Bank Index ($BKX -0.70%) outpaced the Broker/Dealer Index ($XBD -0.19%) to the downside. The Semiconductor Index ($SOX -1.66%) led the tech sector's retreat while the Biotechnology Index ($BTK -0.67%) and the Networking Index ($NWX -0.43%) both ended with modest losses. Commodity-linked groups also created a drag as the Gold & Silver Index ($XAU -0.96%), Oil Services Index ($OSX -1.44%), and the Integrated Oil Index ($XOI -0.33%) lost ground.

Found Support Again at 50-Day Moving Average Line
Kenneth J. Gruneisen - Passed the CAN SLIM® Master's Exam
Jones Lang Lasalle Inc (JLL +$0.19 or +0.11% to $166.31) recently found support near its 50-day moving average DMA line ($163.88). Subsequent losses leading to a violation of the recent lows would raise concerns and trigger technical sell signals.
It was last shown in this FSU section on 4/06/15 with annotated graphs under the headline, "Holding Ground After Rally For New Highs", while extended from its prior base. It found support near prior highs on the recent pullback. It was highlighted in yellow in the 2/03/15 mid-day report (read here) and noted - "Has the look of a valid Secondary Buy point up to +5% above prior highs."
JLL reported Dec '14 earnings +29% on +16% sales revenues, above the +25% minimum earnings guideline (C criteria) for the 3rd consecutive quarterly comparison versus the year ago periods. The number of top-rated funds owning its shares rose from 513 in Mar '14 to 681 in Mar '15, which is a reassuring sign concerning the I criteria. Its small supply (S criteria) of only 44.4 million shares in the public float contribute to greater price volatility in the event of institutional buying or selling.
