More details about this report...
At around
mid-way through each trading day we run
a screen against our database of
high-ranked stocks, searching for
possible buy candidates that are trading
at or near their 52-week high on above
average volume. The results of that
screen are split into the two sections
you see below. The first, titled
"TODAY's FEATURED STOCKS" shows stocks
that our experts have recently
identified as among the strongest candidates to
consider. Stocks highlighted in yellow
are the most timely and noteworthy, so
particular attention and prompt action
may be appropriate. The second section,
titled "TODAY's BREAKOUT SCREEN" shows
the remainder of stocks meeting today's
screen parameters. Our experts have
reviewed and included notes on these
stocks as well, but found that they may
not match up as favorably.

Y - Pulling back today from its 52-week high and slumping below prior chart highs and its pivot point amid a mostly negative market (M criteria) environment. Volume behind recent gains has been below the minimum guidelines (since its mid-May breakout faltered). The America-based mining firm has very reassuring leadership (L criteria) from other Mining - Gold/Silver/Gems industry firms as a favorable backdrop. No overhead supply remains to act as resistance. Featured in a 6/22/10 Stock Bulletin with annotated graph (read here).

Lack of leadership (L criteria) in the Telecom Services - Wireless group and broader market (M criteria) weakness are among the main overriding concerns. In recent weeks it has encountered distributional pressure after rallying near multi-year highs in the $46 area. Quarterly sales revenues increases have steadily been in the +7-11% range, not especially strong or accelerating impressively, yet its annual and quarterly earnings history has been strong.

Most Recent Note for AZO - 7/1/2010 12:22:34 PM
Overcame early weakness today after pulling back near its 50 DMA line amid widespread market (M criteria) weakness. It has held up well since its considerable gain with heavy volume on 5/25/10 for a new 52-week high. Earnings increases have been borderline with the minimum guidelines in the past 3 quarters while sales revenues have increased by only +1-10% in the past 4 quarterly comparisons. While consumers are fixing their old cars and holding off on new car purchases, AZO and similar players in the auto-repair arena have shown great relative strength. Guidelines of the investment system, however, call for current earnings per share +25% or more, and acceleration in recent quarters is important. Also, quarterly sales should also be up at least +18%, +25% or more and ideally accelerating over prior quarters.

Pulling back today after a considerable gain for a new 52-week high on the prior session. Noted in prior mid-day reports that it - "endured numerous distribution days since March yet it held up well, and on 5/28/10 its share price was impacted by a 2:1 split . The Medical - Products firm has a slow but steady annual earnings history. Quarterly sales revenues and earnings increases have been below guidelines. With respect to the N criteria, explosive sales revenues increases would be a true indication of great or growing demand for any company's products."

This high-ranked Medical - Generic Drugs industry firm is challenging its all-time highs this week, and no overhead supply remains to act as resistance. It rebounded with an impressive streak of gains with volume, rising from May - June lows after finding important support at its 200 DMA line. Recent quarters showed sales revenues increases gradually accelerating after a slight downturn. Earnings per share increases have been above the +25% guideline in 3 of the past 4 comparisons versus the year ago period. It has steady earnings history, but not a very strong annual earnings (A criteria) growth record. Leadership in the Medical - Generic Drugs group (L criteria) is very reassuring, while the weak market environment (M criteria) is an overriding concern.

Most Recent Note for MNRO - 7/1/2010 12:56:25 PM
Rallying today for a 3rd consecutive gain against a negative market environment (M criteria). It reached a new 52-week high and new all-time high this week, leaving it clear of any resistance due to overhead supply. It and similar players in the auto-repair arena have shown recent strength while consumers are fixing their old cars and holding off on new car purchases. Earnings and sales revenues increases have been much stronger in recent quarterly comparisons. While the C criteria may be sufficiently satisfied, its annual earnings (A criteria) growth rate has been not especially strong. Additionally, in 6 of its 8 most recent quarterly earnings comparisons there are blue triangles beside the earnings figure on the chart service used by our experts - which indicates pre-tax, non-recurring items were included (where possible, such items are normally removed to provide data better suited for comparison).
