Monday's session ended with small gains for the major averages. The volume totals were reported lighter on the NYSE and on the Nasdaq exchange indicating no great buying demand from the institutional crowd. Breadth was mixed as advancers narrowly outnumbered decliners on the NYSE, yet decliners edged out advancers on the Nasdaq exchange. There were 50 high-ranked companies from the CANSLIM.net Leaders List that made new 52-week highs and appeared on the CANSLIM.net BreakOuts Page, up from 39 stocks on the prior session. The list of stocks hitting new 52-week highs still easily outnumbered new lows on the NYSE and on the Nasdaq exchange. There were gains for 16 of the 22 high-ranked companies currently included on the Featured Stocks Page.

The major averages were little changed amid a quiet trading session. There were no scheduled economic releases Monday to provide a catalyst for the market.

On the earnings front, Arkansas Best Corp (ABFS +15.36%) rallied after quarterly results topped consensus estimates. Shares of News Corp (NWS -0.89%) edged lower ahead of its earnings release after the closing bell. Transocean Ltd (RIG +3.6%) rose after the company came to an agreement with activist investor Carl Icahn to raise its annual dividend to $3 per share. Consumer discretionary and technology were the best performing groups. Retailer Best Buy (BBY +4.53%) and Yahoo! Inc (YHOO +2.10%) advanced.

Treasuries were unchanged as the bond market was closed in observance of Veterans Day. On Friday, the 10-year Treasury note fell more than a point to push its yield up to 2.75% following a better-than-expected nonfarm payrolls report.

Market (M criteria) conditions deteriorated as the major averages encountered distributional pressure this week putting the previously established uptrend under pressure. Disciplined investors should be especially watchful for sell signals in individual issues and look to lock in profits and reduce exposure.  New buying efforts should be limited and very selective. The Retail Index ($RLX +0.93%) and the Broker/Dealer Index ($XBD +0.77%) were among the positive influences on the major averages on Monday. Commodity-linked groups had a slightly positive bias as the Gold & Silver Index ($XAU +0.26%), Integrated Oil Index ($XOI +0.23%), and the Services Index ($OSX +0.67%) edged higher. Medical-related groups were helped as the Biotechnology Index ($BTK +0.92%) rose  There were small losses for the Bank Index ($BKX -0.17%) and the Semiconductor Index ($SOX -0.12%) while the Networking Index ($NWX +0.18%) eked out a small gain.

Biotauto Hldgs Ltd Ads (BITA +$0.28 +1.14% to $24.91) posted a small gain with near average volume. It has not formed a sound new base. Its 50-day moving average (DMA) line defines important near-term support to watch on pullbacks. BITA was last shown in this FSU section on 10/02/13 with an annotated graph under the headline, "Volume-Driven Gains Cleared Latest Pivot Point". It has traded up as much as +137% since first highlighted in the 8/07/13 mid-day report in yellow at $12.01 with the prior pivot point based on its 5/08/13 high plus 10 cents (read here).

This China-based Internet-Content firm reported financial results +129% on +40% sales revenues for the Sep '13 quarter. Its quarterly and annual earnings (C and A criteria) history has been strong. Its small supply (S criteria) of only 13.9 million shares in the public float can contribute to great volatility in the event of institutional buying or selling. There are 36 top-rated mutual funds as of Sep '13 that currently own an interest in the company, up from 25 in June, a reassuring sign concerning the I criteria. Its Up/Down Volume Ratio of 1.2 is an unbiased indication that its shares have been under slight accumulation over the past 50 days.
