At around

high-ranked stocks, searching for
possible buy candidates that are trading
at or near their 52-week high on above
average volume. The results of that
screen are split into the two sections
you see below. The first, titled
"TODAY's FEATURED STOCKS" shows stocks
that our experts have recently
identified as among the strongest candidates to
consider. Stocks highlighted in yellow
are the most timely and noteworthy, so
particular attention and prompt action
may be appropriate. The second section,
titled "TODAY's BREAKOUT SCREEN" shows
the remainder of stocks meeting today's
screen parameters. Our experts have
reviewed and included notes on these
stocks as well, but found that they may
not match up as favorably.

Y - Color code is changed to yellow with pivot point based on its 6/19/12 high after a cup-with handle base. Disciplined investors watch for a solid volume-driven gain to confirm a breakout before taking action. It is now perched within close striking distance of its 52-week high and all-time high, however the $67-69 area has been a stubborn resistance level in recent years. Went through a consolidation below its 50 DMA line since last noted on 4/13/12 following a considerable gap up gain after raising its guidance. "No overhead supply remains to act as resistance. Recently wedged to new 52-week highs without great volume conviction and did not form a sound base pattern. Disciplined investors may watch for an ideal base or secondary buy point to possibly develop and be noted. Quarterly comparisons show strong sales revenues and earnings increases (C criteria), and its annual earnings (A criteria) history has been good."

Y - Faces little resistance due to overhead supply while perched within close striking distance of its 52-week high today, consolidating after volume-driven gains. In the 6/18/12 report it was highlighted in yellow with a new pivot point cited based on its 2/16/12 high plus 10 cents. Disciplined investors may watch for a volume-driven gain above its pivot point to trigger a technical buy signal before action is justified under the fact-based system. Reported earnings +8% on -2% sales revenues for the quarter ended March 31, 2012 versus the year ago period, below the investment system's minimum guidelines for buy candidates. The 3/22/11 mid-day report noted - "Rising this week from an orderly flat base. No overhead supply remains to act as resistance. The 2 most recent quarterly comparisons (Sep and Dec '10) show improving sales and earnings, but its prior earnings and sales history was below the investment system guidelines and Street estimates for FY '11 and FY '12 are calling for earnings growth only in the +4-7% range. Considerable gain today with above average volume, rebounding near its 50 DMA line which recently acted as resistance. It failed to make further progress, then slumped below its short-term average weeks after last noted in the 3/29/12 mid-day report - "Hitting a new 52-week high, rallying from a short 'square box' base pattern above its 50 DMA line and well above prior highs in the $25 area. Reported earnings +52% on +11% sales revenues for the quarter ended February 29, 2012 versus the year ago period. Quarterly earnings comparisons have reasonably satisfied the C criteria now. Its annual earnings (A criteria) history has steadily improving since a downturn in FY '08, however much higher earnings in FY '07 cause its 5-year earnings "Growth Rate" to only be +3%."

Churning heavy volume at its 52-week high without making meaningful price progress is a sign it recently has been encountering distributional pressure after building a base-on-base pattern. Last noted in the 6/20/12 mid-day report - "Consolidating above prior highs and its 50 DMA line in the $11 area that define chart support. Low-priced stocks are discouraged from consideration unless all key criteria are solidly satisfied. Repeatedly noted in prior mid-day reports - 'Annual earnings (A criteria) showed steady increases since a downturn in FY '08. This Ireland-based firm hailing from the Medical - Products industry group is not a match with the winning models from the book, 'How To Make Money In Stocks'.
